A buzz where there should be inspiration
(but what is "should," anyways?)
A long way in the wilderness
A walking when aching knees would rather run
A plane in the air
A car on the ground, tracing
the same road there and back
twice-a-day beauty that both
soothes and stirs the soul
A pair of geese at the water's edge
it is frozen but it will thaw
it is thawing, please stay close
Revivifying embers
A wanting womb
Baking bread
A bride walking up the aisle
Slow-heating apartments
A grief-stricken parent
Last-straw arguments
A quickening before the kiss
Trying on shoes
A new medication
The Supper before the garden
the garden before the tomb
the tomb before the throne
And geese flying in circles
Shouldn't they be going south or north or somewhere?
(But what is "should," anyways?)
Waiting is better in twos or threes
or several
Staying close to the quickening ice
We remember what it has been
We know what it will be
This is our home and so we stay
In the wanting and the waiting and the back-and-forth driving and the sparking embers and the yeasty rising and the folded-over veil and the tears and aches of where is heaven and the tarmac-bound plane and the empty womb, the empty tomb—
We wait, we wait, we are as geese
This is our home and
It is thawing
